About Us

Bakersfield Youth Fine Arts Academy (BYFA) is an organization that specializes in the education of youth in the visual and performing arts and the enrichment of our community through live performances. Due to lack of funding, fine arts programs are generally the first to be eliminated from many schools' standard learning curriculum. BYFA's primary goal is to fill that void. In a technology driven age, BYFA has a strong conviction to keep the soul of the arts alive by offering it to the future...our children. The enrichment of our children in the arts has benefits of improving acting, singing, dancing, painting, drawing and sculpting skills. However, the most fundamental benefits of studying the fine arts are promoting creativity, gaining social skills by working in teams, building self-confidence and encouraging individuality in self-expression. BYFA views these benefits as invaluable assets to mold children into well-rounded, successful adults.

2026 Winter Musical Theatre Workshop

Due to the popularity of our summer and fall workshops, for the first time in BYFA history we are offering a winter workshop! It is a 5 week Winter singing/acting/dancing workshop that culminates into a professional big-stage musical showcase with songs, dances and scenes from the movie and the Broadway show “Wicked"! * Students will learn about the auditioning process, vocal techniques, acting skills and choreography…and during the final week of workshop, our students will present a showcase on a professional live theatre stage with costumes, make up, lights and body mics. There are two sessions to choose from:

SESSION A

Jan. 12- Feb. 16.

Rehearsals will be Mondays 4-5:30pm

Performance Showcase : Feb. 16 7pm

SESSION B

Jan. 14- Feb. 18.

Rehearsals will be Wednesdays 4-5:30pm

Performance Showcase : Feb. 18 7pm

We welcome ages 5-17 years for this workshop. Tuition is $250 per student (costume rental, show tshirt and two comp tickets to the showcase included). Tuition is non-refundable after Jan. 7 2026.

*The performances will not be the presentation of entire Broadway show like our fall and summer workshops. They will consist of excerpts/scenes and musical numbers ... groups, solos, duets etc. taken from the movie and Broadway show and presented in one night only showcases for each session with costumes, hair, makeup, lights and body mics. Students will still be cast as characters from the show/movie,

For rehearsals, location is a private residence in the Stockdale area (address will be given once student is enrolled and paid). Then for the last week of workshop, we will move into the theatre (location TBA) and add the big stage, costumes, make-up, lights and body mics! Performances of the showcases will be Feb. 16th for SESSION A and Feb. 18th for SESSION B.

Our workshops are absolutely extraordinary experiences that your child will never forget. We watch our students learn, grow and gain confidence that will stay with them their entire lifetimes. It is a truly magical experience!
